House of Vintage Cognacs “Tavria” is one of the oldest brandy-making factories in Eastern Europe. Its founding, however, was rather a matter of accident. It all started in 1822, when the Russian czar, Alexander I, invited French and Swiss viticulturists and winemakers to the Black Sea shores, to plant the first vineyards in the area. Some time afterwards, in 1889, three of these foreign winemakers, Louis Gekhler, Julius Meyer and Jean Jatone, went hunting to the banks of lower Dnipro, and accidentally rode to the exact same area, where the city of Nova Kahovka is now situated. The colonists were impressed by the vast unexploited land, which fitted ideally for grape growing. In no time, the three men bought over 500 hectares of land in these parts. The colonists made no mistake in their forecasts: after only a decade of cultivation, they became owners of unbelievable vineyards that could compete with the ones located in world-famous French provinces. Over the years, Tavria supplied finest wines and brandies to Ukraine, Russia and other adjacent countries.

Here at Tavria, we honor the traditions established by our founding fathers, and strictly cling to classic brandymaking technology of double distillation of spirits on “pot still” apparatuses. Our own raw material base comprises 1 300 hectares of vineyards. Aging cellars contain over 6 500 oak barrels. The production is certified according to ISO-9001:2008.

Over the decades, produce of Tavria has won numerous awards at local and international tasting competitions. Currently Tavria holds 235 awards, among which 101 Gold, 92 Silver, 42 Bronze medals, 44 special awards, and – our pride – 9 Grand Prix.
