BORGMANN is a modern German herb-flavoured liqueur. A contradiction, one may think. But on closer inspection a culture clash, that creates something exciting, that is the combination of a more than a hundred year old tradition with a contemporary design. This is how a hybrid comes into being – a combination of the best from yesterday and today. "Hybrid means mixed, deriving from two different origins. A whole composed of different elements."

BORGMANN - THE ROOTS The today 600 year old house of the court-pharmacy has already been named "to dem roden Crutze", which can be translated "to the red cross". But as there were a multitude of so-called "wild" pharmacies, the owner asked the duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel to raise the pharmacy to the privileged pharmacy. This is how the history of the Borgmann family started in 1772 and this is why the year and the ducal emblem are still seen on every bottle. It is because the inscriptions inside the emblem still have a relevant message. "So we graciously assent to the request that he might join the body of apothecaries […] at our royal and princely court and accordingly authorise him to establish a privileged dispensary on behalf of his highness the duke." Letter from the 6th of June 1772, signed by duke August Wilhelm. Not only the privilege to deliver the court came with this distinction, but also an unconditional promise of quality, the Borgmann family is still committed to today. The name court-pharmacy has been established during the centuries thanks to other smart ancestors and is under the common management of the pharmacist couple Mr and Mrs Borgmann since 1976. "The knowledge of the effect of the medicine and the wish to always want to help people is what distinguishes a good pharmacist." Wolfgang Borgmann.

BORGMANN - PRODUCTION From the knowledge of the effect of indigenous herbs, the secret formula of BORGMANN has been developed in the pharmacy's laboratory after a long series of tests at the end of the last century. Over the generations, the formula remained unchanged and has only been passed on to the closest family circle. Back then and still today, the content of every bottle is hand made. Behind this intensive manufacturing process stands the claim of quality that can be enjoyed already at the first sip. As soon as the herbal essences unfold and release their flavour one understands, why BORGMANN is still that special today. It is the taste that makes BORGMANN so unmistakable. One reason for that is the manufacturing process, during which the liquor is bottled with a funnel, weight by hand and then sealed and packed. The production process itself takes up ten days. After mixing the alcohol and the herbal essences the substance has to rest well chilled, so that the fine herbal essences can unfold and assemble little by little at the bottom of the can. After cooling for ten days, the so called maturity, the herb flavoured liqueur can be filtered and bottled. The amount and the concentration of the herbs are decisive for the balanced taste of BORGMANN. Although the formula and the manufacturing method are only passed on verbally, the quality remained unchanged until today. One can immediately taste the difference to industrially produced liqueurs.

Due to the constant positive resonance, the strong and brave plan arouse in summer 2005 to make BORGMANN accessible to a larger but moreover to a younger group of consumers and by giving it a new design to produce a high quality product for the 21st century. The location Berlin, that has become the residence and the source of inspiration of everybody involved, offered a creative "breeding ground". This is where the first bars and stores could be convinced of BORGMANN.

And as Berlin is famous for its creativity, its constant change and its internationality, BORGMANN is meant to reach other metropolises from there.
